Ruth Edson Obituary

On July 21st, 2025, Ruth Muriel Edson slipped the confining bonds of Earth to take her place in the eternal grace of heaven. Ruthie was born on April 3rd, 1937, in the little town of Bridgton Maine. Ruthie was one of many in a very loving and bustling family. Financial means were limited but love and compassion were abundant. Ruthie grew up immersed in music and surrounded by the talents of her parents and siblings. On many Saturday nights local friends and relatives would gather to hear the fiddles, guitars and the angelic voices of Ruthie and her sisters as they played and sang. Ruthie attended local schools in Bridgton and Naples Maine. Later in her life she received certification in the profession of cosmetology and worked for several years in that career. Ruthie was raised by her parents Dick and Florence Knight. They were strong, determined, and loving parents and she learned many important life lessons that would help her to navigate the many challenges of her life. Ruthie embraced the spiritual love and role modeling that her parents o ered and she lived her life committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ. In 1969 Ruthie was married to the love of her life, Charles Lewis Edson Jr. (United States Air-Force - Retired). "Lew" and Ruthie built the home of their dreams in East Sullivan New Hampshire where they lived together for many wonderful years. Ruthie is survived by her grandson Dale Edson Jr., her granddaughter Amanda Dempsey, husband Justin and their children, Arabella, Brynlee, Parker, and Liam. Both Amanda and Dale Jr. currently reside in the town of Keene NH. Ruthie is also survived by her brother Richard "Richie" Knight who resides in Feeding Hills Massachusetts. Ruthie also enjoyed many nieces and nephews who are spread out over the New England area and beyond. Ruthie is predeceased by her husband Charles "Lewis" Edson, her son Dale Edson Sr., her father Robert "Dick" Knight, her mother Florence Knight, her sisters Eleanor Knight, Beverly Chute, Goldie McKenney, Evelyn Mercer, Alice Fogg, and her brother Jack "Jackie" Knight. Ruthie will be missed profoundly by those who continue our earthly journey. Great pride and comfort are taken in the belief that her faith is being rewarded as she takes her place in heaven. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 30th from 10:00am until 12:00pm at Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel, 44 Maple Ave, Keene, NH 03431. A graveside service is planned immediately following the visitation hours at the Sullivan Center Cemetery located on Church St. Sullivan NH.
