Jo Bolen Obituary

Tucson - Jo Carol Bolen

Jo was born on May 11, 1956 in Boise, Idaho to Earl and Dorothy Bolen. She passed away in Tucson, AZ on Jan. 23, 2025 at the age of 68 after a long illness..

She spent her childhood years in Meridian, Idaho graduating from Meridian High School in 1974.

She attended Boise State University graduating in 1978 with a BA degree in Accounting. She then passed her CPA test and worked for 38 years doing government and non-profit audits travelling throughout the state of Idaho. Thirty-five of those years were spent with Gibbons, Scott & Dean in Caldwell, ID. The last three she worked for Millington Zwygart John & Associates when they took over Gibbons, Scott & Dean.

Jo was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She was also a member of the Idaho Society of CPAs. She received the Dr. Sydney Duncombe Service Award in Recognition of Outstanding Service to The City Clerks and Finance Officers of the State of Idaho.

Jo helped various non-profits in the valley with their financial books - getting everything in order for their year-end reporting.

Jo was very active in the Caldwell United Methodist Church and the Meridian United Methodist Church. Over the years she held various offices in the financial areas of the churches. She was also active in the United Methodist Women organization. Every summer she helped put on their School of Missions.

Jo spent her formative years going through all levels of scouting from Brownie to Senior. She continued this interest in the Girl Scouts by participating at various levels from interacting with the local troops to helping with trainings. She saw the importance the Girl Scouts played in young girls' development as they became young adults.

Jo helped with the local Crop Walk each year by tracking the donations and walking in the Walk.

Anyone who knew Jo knew of her love for all things Disney. We're sure they heard of the many sisters' trips to Disneyland. Yes, everything that happens at Disneyland stays in Disneyland - well maybe not everything. Besides being a lover of Disney she collected Hallmark ornaments and Jim Shore Figurines. She loved to read and watch TV in her spare time.

Jo spent her last 4 years in Tucson, AZ as her health deteriorated to be close to her sister, Wanda Myers and her niece, Vicki Waller .

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dorothy Bolen, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by her brother, Earl Bolen (Boise,ID), Sisters: Sue Bolen Hulse (Los Banos, CA) Peggy Bolen Cook (Modesto,CA) Wanda (Scott) Bolen Myers (Tucson,AZ), many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Interment will be private in Meridian, ID at a later date.

Donations can be made to the United Methodist Church Caldwell or Meridian, the Idaho Youth Ranch, Girl Scouts of America or the charity of your choice.

I'm so sorry to hear about Jo. We went to high school together & we were both accountants. Over the years, we would run into each other periodically at accounting seminars. She was always very kind & friendly. Prayers go out to her family.

Jo and I worked together for United Methodist Women. We traveled together many times. I was dean of Mission u and she was in charge of registration and always did a great job. Registration was a big job it included putting women in the different classes and placing them in the rooms. Also sending out information to each person. She was also on the district team. I have missed her the past few years. I have to admit I added to her collection of Disney things. She always talked highly of her sisters and so enjoyed being with them.

So sorry to hear this. Jo was a mentor to me when I was a new City Clerk 30 years ago. She was also a great friend. May she rest in peace.
