She was born Jane Almeda Workman on Feb. 28, 1918, in Bryan County, Okla., a daughter of William H. Workman and Roxie Mae Frizell Workman. She moved to Floyd County in 1919 and graduated from Lockney High School in 1935. She met D.J. Phillips while serving as secretary-treasurer of the Lone Star Theatre Club. They were married on Aug. 29, 1936, in Floyd County. Almeda enjoyed family vacations to Red River, New Mexico, where she was an avid fisherman and miniature golf player. She loved to crochet, especially if she were making a baby blanket for future grandchildren or great-grandchildren. She was a housewife, farmwife, and mother. Almeda and D.J. made their home in the Lone Star community until moving to Lockney. She was a member of the Lockney Senior Citizens, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Dairy Queen Ladies Club, and the First United Methodist Church. Almeda lived life to the fullest, but most of all, she loved her family. She leaves behind and amazing legacy for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, D.J. Phillips on Feb. 24, 1989; one son, Darrel Phillips on Aug. 12, 1986; her parents, William H. and Roxie Workman; two brothers, Claude Workman and Harley Workman, and one sister, Lorene King.
Almeda is survived by two daughters, Jane Lacewell and husband Ron of College Station, and DeLinda Glasson and husband Paul of Lockney; one son, Keith Phillips and wife Marcia of Lockney; six grandchildren, Dana Easter and husband Mark, Chad Lacewell, Phillip Glasson and wife Rayanna, Jerod Glasson, Ashley Lacewell, and Tyler Phillips and wife Lacy; seven great-grandchildren, Meagan Ponce, Cody Ponce, Layton Glasson, Hope Glasson, TyAnn Phillips, Austin Phillips and Amelia Joe Phillips.
Memorials are suggested to the Lockney Senior Citizen Center, Lockney Cemetery Association, or the donors charity of choice. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Gary Mangold and the Lockney Health and Rehabilitation for the wonderful care they gave Almeda over the past eight years.
