Alta Gardner Obituary

Alta Baucum Gardner Alta Baucum Gardner passed sweetly and peacefully on Oct. 28, 2013, after almost 93 years of sharing the beauty of a rosebud, the taste of "meals cooked from scratch" and summertime adventures. She inspired her family by her faithfulness to her Lord, Jesus Christ, and loving devotion to our dad, James Gardner. Alta was born second from the oldest of nine children to Tom and Allie Baucum at Anson, Texas, on May 22, 1921. With her passing, Alta is joining two of her brothers and three of her sisters and her parents who predeceased her. She was married to James Earl Gardner, her treasured sweetheart for life, celebrating 71 years before his passing in 2010. Together they farmed at Lockettville, Kress and Edmonson, ranched at Cisco and retired to Wolfforth, Texas, in 2002. Alta loved being back in West Texas with a new home to make new rose gardens and meet new neighbors. Alta and James' children are Stanley Gardner of Granbury, Texas; Ann and Wayne Holland of Lubbock; and Randy and Patty Gardner of San Angelo, Texas. Ten grandchildren are Stephen and Elaine Gardner, Sammy and Debbie Gardner, Miles and Darla Gardner, Robyn and Clay McLucas, Graydon and Christi Trusler, Alex and Karla Trusler, Darryl and Stephanie Holland, Keila and Todd Dillard, Julianna and BradLee Holland, Reed and Brandi Gardner. Seventeen great-grandchildren are Kali and Dillon, Britley, Grayson, Branson, Chase, Kenzie, Graydon, Vivi, Abby, Rhett, Blake, Schuyler, Kelsey, Sloane, Gardner, Griggs, and Harper. She called them her "blessings." Alta is survived by two sisters, Mary and Dub Black and Velma and Tom Youngblood, and one brother, B.W. Baucum, as well as dear cousins, nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law who were "her people." Alta's family is most grateful for the excellent care by Accolade Hospice and Promiseland #4 which was Alta's home for the past six months. Teresa Scoggins' team, including special thanks to Elena, provided kind and efficient care for our sweet Alta. Memorial contributions are welcome, and her family suggests the First Baptist Church Ropesville, P.O. Box 56, Ropesville, TX 79358; First Baptist Church Edmonson, Box 29, Edmonson, TX 79072, First Baptist Church Wolfforth, 501 Main St., Wolfforth, TX 79382, where they experienced and shared with others the joy and promise of life eternal through their voice, prayers and worship. We will gather for fellowship and remembrance from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today, Oct. 30, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, before celebrating her life of 92 years at 1:30 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park. She was such a beautiful lady and will be missed dearly. So many memories I have of her and all her sisters and brothers. Memories of her and James I shall never forget also.
Due to a commitment I had made for Wednesday I will not be able to attend the services but my prayers will be with the family.
