Born in Anton, Texas, November 13, 1939, to Claude and Jessie (Minton) Goen, Doug was the middle child of six boys. He grew up in Anton where he worked on the family farm and graduated from Anton High School in 1959. Being a gifted athlete, Doug received a scholarship to play football at Texas Tech, after which he was able to attend Lubbock Christian College on scholarship for basketball. After finishing at Lubbock Christian College, he went back to Texas Tech where he graduated in 1965. He married Glenda Ruth Chesser in 1960 and they were married almost 60 years when she passed away in August of 2020. Doug loved the Lord and was dedicated to His service. He and Glenda attended Main Street Church of Christ in Olton. Following college, Doug took a job with Gifford Hill Western, not knowing that that would become his life's work. A few years later, he started working for Western Ag Sales and he became one of their top salesmen for several years. Not taking credit for his accomplishments, he would give credit to his many successful farmers. In 1979, Doug started Goen Irrigation, where he worked until his unofficial retirement in 2018 to stay home to care for Glenda. He loved his work and found great fulfillment in the success of his many loyal customers. Along with his work, Doug was a very civic minded person. He served on the Olton School Board from 1972 to 1984, the Olton Stock Show Board, the Olton Lions Club, and was instrumental in starting Olton's Little Dribbler program in 1975. His true joy in life came from spending time with his family. His love was shown in all that he did for them. In his quiet manner, he fiercely supported his kids and grandkids at every stock show, sporting event, and college endeavor.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Glenda, and five brothers, Bill Goen, David Goen, Jerry Goen, James Goen, and Ronald Goen. Those left to celebrate his life include his son, Randy Goen and wife Kristy of Olton and his daughter, Rhonda Pinkerton and husband David of Olton. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Sawyer Pinkerton and wife Hayley, Seth Pinkerton and wife Avery, Sadler Pinkerton and wife Shalin, Brooke Streun and husband Jordan, Breanna Goen, and Bryson Goen and 12 great-grandchildren: Boyd, Bodie, Sutton, Kason, Lawson, Clara, Bauer, Ledger, Behren, Booker, James, and Hazel.
