Edna Estes Obituary

Edna Estes SILVERTON - Funeral services for Edna Blanks Estes, 98, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad King, pastor, and Jimmy Burson officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery by Myers-Chancellor Funeral Home of Silverton. Mrs. Estes died Friday, Aug. 18, 2006. She was born June 9, 1908, the first child of Jim and Lillie (Elrod) Blanks in Grayson County. She grew up in that area and graduated from Pilot Point High School. She attended Austin College in Sherman for a year. She married Garvis Dewey "Jack" Estes on Dec. 11, 1929 in Marietta, Okla. He died Feb. 28, 1999. They moved to the Lemon's Ranch in the fall of 1942 and lived in and around Silverton for about 64 years. They were selected Briscoe County Pioneers of the Year in 1997. Mrs. Estes was a member of First Baptist Church in Silverton. She was a homemaker and helpmate to her husband of almost 70 years. Survivors include four children, Melba Gillihan of Silverton, Valda Ferguson of DeQueen, Ark., and twins Dewey Estes of Silverton and Doris McDonald of Idalou; a son-in-law, Lynn McDonald; sisters Frances Moses of Olton and Lillie Williams of Whitesboro; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and five step great-great-grandchildren. A brother, Willard Blanks; sisters Hazel Hart and Lucille Butler; and sons-in-law A.J. Haney, Carl Cafferty, John Gillihan and Bill Ferguson are deceased. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Silverton or Silverton Cemetery Association.
