Edwin Nutt Obituary

Edwin Lee Nutt FLOYDADA - Edwin Lee Nutt, 74, of Floydada, died Saturday, April 2, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at City Park Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Floyd County Memorial Park under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada. Edwin was born Feb. 28, 1937, to Ellie Loraine Turner and Jewell Gibson Nutt in San Angelo, Texas. The family moved to Wood County and then to Cotton Center where he graduated from school in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and attained the rank of sergeant. He was an aircraft electrician serving aboard aircraft carriers with tours to the Panama Canal, Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Mediterranean. He was so proud and honored to have served his country. Edwin married Barbara Hill on April 16, 1961, in Hale Center. They were blessed with three sons, Daniel Lee, Jeffrey Mark and Zachary Bill. Edwin started farming around Floydada in 1962. He was on the Noxious Weed Control Board, county committee for High Plains Underground Water District, Honorary Chapter Farmer by Floydada FFA, president of Floydada Chamber of Commerce, president of Floyd County Stock Show Association and secretary of local NFO Chapter. He was a pioneer in starting to raise corn in Floyd County. Edwin loved farming and ranching. He especially loved his cattle and raising and training border collies. He had the honor of being inducted into the One Ton Club by raising four-bale cotton. Edwin was a faithful member of City Park Church of Christ. He taught class and led singing. Church, family and cattle were his passions. Edwin dearly loved and enjoyed his grandchildren. Edwin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Nutt; his three sons, Danny and his wife, Laura, and their children, Lindsey and Koby Vasek, Jason and Kaylie; Mark and his wife, Loretta, and their children, Skye, Taylor, Kayne, Brittyn, Seth and Eric, and great-grandchild, Aiden; Zach and his wife, Stacy, and their children, Kelsey and Corbin; one sister, Patsy Ulmer and her husband, Jerry; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nutt Webb and Janice Nutt; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellie Nutt, and his father, Jewell Nutt, and his two brothers, Charles and Jerry. Special thanks to his caregivers, Jesus "Tiny" Varela and to the hospice girls, Nora, Norma and Carrie, and to the hospice nurses, Helen, Melissa, Saundra and Sheryl. Memorials in Mr. Nutt's name may be made to the White River Youth Camp, HC 2 Box 98, Spur, TX 79370; and to Hospice Hands of West Texas, P.O. Box 1118, Lockney, TX 79241.
