Marcia Lockwood Obituary

Services for Marcia Wheeler Lockwood, 90, of Lorenzo will be at 10 a.m., Monday, August 16, 2010 at the Lorenzo First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Williams and Rev. Cam Givan officiating. Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo. Marcia passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Santa Fe House in Plainview. She was born January 29, 1920 in Crosby County to the late Rufus Marshall and Esther Rebecca (Murray) Wheeler. On February 28, 1940 she married William Otho "W. O." Lockwood at the Wheeler Ranch in Crosby County. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1999. She was the last surviving member of a pioneer family that settled in Crosby County in 1886. She was a member of the Lorenzo First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years. Marcia was also a member of the Lorenzo Study Club for many years and was an active member of the Crosby County Historical Commission where she served as Chairman for 20 years. She was active in Girl Scouts and was awarded the "Women of Distinction" from the Caprock Girl Scout Council. She is preceded in death by four brothers, Rex Wheeler, Horace Wheeler, Ralph Wheeler and Curtis Wheeler and four sisters, Grace Wheeler, Lola Smith, Ruth Adams and Jessie Aycock. Survivors include, two sons, Robert Lockwood and wife Sharon of Lorenzo, David Lockwood and wife Janet of Temple; two daughters, Jane Bryant and husband Bob of Plainview, Martha Ann Lockwood of Benbrook, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-5 p.m. at Adams FuneralHome in Lorenzo. The family suggests memorials to the Lorenzo First United Methodist Memorial Fund P. O. Box 429 Lorenzo, Texas 79343. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Lockwood, Ron Lockwood, Craig Cooke, Jeff McCutchen, Rusty Mounsey, Brad Shick, Clay Bryant and Steven Chapman.
