Ricky Ascencio Obituary

Ricky Ascencio, age 47, of Lockney, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Sunday, December 18, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Lockney with David Luna officiating. Interment will follow at the Lockney Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney, and then from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney.

Ricky was born on February 28, 1975, to Augustine and San Juana Ascencio. He was born and raised in Lockney, Texas, and graduated from Lockney High School in 1994. From 1994-1995, Ricky attended South Plains College. After this, he began working at the Walmart Distribution Center in Plainview for twelve years from 1995-2007. Prior to his death, Ricky was in the middle of his fifteenth year of service to the State of Texas through the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a correctional officer from 2007-2022. He was a dedicated member of San Jose Catholic Church in Lockney.

Throughout his time in Lockney, Ricky was a volunteer coach for his sons' sports teams for numerous years. He was also on Lockney's Football Chain Gang. Perhaps his most notable service to the community of Lockney and surrounding areas, Ricky served on the Lockney Volunteer Fire Department for almost ten years. For five of those years, Ricky served as Sgt. at Arms. In 2016, he was recognized for his "constant commitment to serving on the department and {his} community by helping those in need" by being named Fireman of the Year.

Ricky was many things - a devoted husband and father, a beloved son, brother, friend, and a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Ricky is preceded in death by his mother; San Juana Ascencio.

He is survived by his wife; Lisa Ascencio, his father; Augustine Ascencio, two sons; Cristian Diego and Dominick Cruz Ascencio, five brothers; Salvador Ascencio of Mexico, Juan Carlos Ascencio of Lubbock, Augustine Ascencio, Jr., Edward Ascencio, and Christopher Ascencio of Lockney, and four sisters; Bertha Ascencio of Silverton, Rebecca Naranjo of El Paso, Rosa Ruiz and Orfa Perales of Lockney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
