Robert Spalding Obituary

Robert E. Spaulding passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025 in Plainview, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday May 13, 2025 at 10 A.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview, Texas. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas.

He was born March 13, 1934 in Kilgore, Texas to George W. Spaulding and Mable Shaw Spaulding. The family moved to Center, Texas when Robert was two months old. His father died when he was seven years old and his mom had four children to take care of and support. The oldest child was nine years of age and the youngest two years of age. Bob belonged to the Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout.

Bob moved to Plainview, Texas with his family in 1951 and graduated from Plainview High School in 1953. He became a member of the National Guard in 1952 and served 32 years before retiring. He also served as a volunteer fireman with Hereford Fire Department for many years and taught fire training at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas every summer during his tenure.

In 1955 Bob went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Bob married Norma Bonds Spaulding in 1958 in Plainview, Texas and in 1959 they moved to Hereford, Texas when Bob was transferred with SBTC. In 1962, a son, Robert Wayne Spaulding, was born.

In 1974 Bob was transferred to Austin, Texas and retired in 1994 with 39 years of service with the telephone company. After retiring, Bob went to work for ACS Data Line in Austin and worked there for 4 years until he again retired. In 1998, Bob and Norma moved to Plainview, Texas and enjoyed traveling in their travel trailer. They were members of the Central Plains Good Sam's Trailer Group for many years and enjoyed many trips with this group. Bob enjoyed traveling, fishing, and woodworking.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, son Robert Wayne Spaulding, brother George W. Spaulding Jr. of Austin, Texas, and sister Betty Hingst of Plainview, Texas.

Bob is survived by his wife Norma Spaulding of the home, sister Shirley Kuykendall of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, sister-in-law Nancy Spaulding of Austin, Texas, sister-in-law Rita Bonds of Richardson, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Interim Hospice, especially to Reagen Garrison and Chaplain Chris Craig. Also to the individuals who took good care of Robert in his last days; Ann Moreno, Josh and Christina.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church Plainview, Texas, Boys Ranch, or a charity of your choice.
