Sandra was born on June 6, 1951, to William "Bill" and Doris (Shive) Lacy in Amherst, Texas. She grew up and graduated in Hart, Texas. She also attended West Texas State College. Sandra married Charles Helton on February 14, 1972, and in that union, they had 3 daughters. Sandra worked for Walmart for over 26 years before retiring. She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Hart.

Sandra loved spending time with her family especially her grand and great grandchildren whom she adored. She enjoyed crocheting and loved people; she never met a stranger. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Amy Newsom, Stacy Brown and husband, Lonnie, and Billie Helton, all of Plainview, a brother; Carl Lacy and wife, Kim, of Fort Worth, Texas, her grandchildren; Allyson Bolding of Plainview, Christopher Bolding of Akron, Ohio, Mackenzie Winders of Plainview, and Krece Winders of Plainview, great-grandchildren; Kason Rangel, Analee Juarez, and Easton Cantu.
