Zan Donell Walker

Zan Donell Walker Our beloved son, brother, husband, father and friend, Zan Donell Walker, went to be his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008. A service of celebration was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Oakwood Baptist Church in Lubbock followed by graveside service at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas, at 3 p.m. Zan Donell Walker was born to Pasty Ruth Harris Walker and the Rev. Troy Alvin Walker on May 12, 1955, in Clovis, N.M. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, Texas, in 1973. He entered Wayland Baptist University on a basketball scholarship where he graduated with a bachelors of arts, major in music in 1978. He received a masters of church music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983. His 34 years of ministry included minister of music and youth at Second Baptist Church, Plainview, Texas; Parkview Baptist Church, Plainview, Texas; First Baptist Church, Panhandle, Texas; Brock Baptist Church, Weatherford, Texas; Central Baptist Church, Pampa, Texas; and minister of music at Oakwood Baptist Church, Lubbock, Texas. He married Latitia Gayle Hemphill on Jan. 26, 1991, in Pampa, Texas. They have two daughters, Caitlin Ashley Walker, age 16, and Shelby Nicole Walker, age 13. He leaves behind his wife, Latitia Gayle Hemphill Walker; and daughters, Caitlin Ashley Walker and Shelby Nicole Walker; mother, Pasty Harris Walker, and father, the Rev. Troy Walker; brother, Alvin and wife Brenda Walker; sister, Keila and husband Jay Sandridge; nieces, nephews and many loved ones. Memorial tributes may be given to Oakwood Baptist Church, Lubbock, TX Building Fund, or Caitlin and Shelby College Scholarship Fund at American State Bank, Lubbock TX.
