Cathy Meryanos Obituary

Cathy Jordan Meryanos
June 8, 1957 - December 4, 2018
Conway
Ms. Cathy Jordan Meryanos, of Conway, SC, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the age of 61.
Cathy was born to parents Donald H. Jordan Jr and Ann Yvonne Jordan on June 8, 1957 in Fort Benning, GA. She grew up as the eldest of four, residing in Conway, SC. Cathy loved to learn, obtaining degrees in Botanicals, Graphic Design, Massage Therapy, and Esthetics, and also loved to teach. In order to help people around the world understand how to manage pain, she published an article in the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Body Work: Research Education and Practice, titled "Massage Therapy for Pain Associated with Head Panning in Africa". She also spent her time gardening and reading any genre she could find.
Cathy practiced as a Massage Therapist for 18 years, spreading her gift of healing throughout the world, especially in the village of Okurase, Ghana. For two consecutive summers Cathy spent time personally providing therapy and healing to hundreds of people in Okurase, in addition to organizing and advocating for Project OKURASE in her time apart. Working alongside members of the organization, Acts of Africa, Cathy formed an immense love for the people of Okurase and Ghana, claiming many as her sons and daughters.
Cathy was a very strong willed woman, with a beautiful soul, sharp sense of humor, and a passion for helping others. A woman whose proudest legacy is the children she left behind, who both have their mother's spirit and desire to change people's lives.
Cathy is preceded in death by her eldest son, Jonathan. She is survived by her son, Theo; her daughter, Donna-Sophia; her parents, Don and Von Jordan; brother, Donald H. Jordan III; sister, Jo Ellen Strickland; brother, Jimmy Jordan; and her grandchildren, Daisy-Mae and Whoopie.
The cremation will take place in Charleston, on December 7th. The scattering of ashes will take place in locations where Cathy held dear to her heart. Friends and family are invited to attend her memorial service on December 8th, 2018 at 1pm at the First Baptist Church of Conway, located at 603 Elm Street. The family is grateful for the condolences, and requests in lieu of flowers, that donations be sent in her name to: Project OKURASE, 176 Croghan Spur, Suite 104, Charleston, SC, 29407. www.projectokurase.org.
