Clarence Thomas Obituary

GOOSE CREEK | Clarence Thomas, husband of Barbara Thomas, entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 16, 2009.

Clarence B. Thomas was born November 24, 1922 in Horry County, South Carolina, to James Lenox Thomas and Martha Viola Lewis Thomas.

He resided in Goose Creek, for the past 45 years. He served in the Navy during World War II. He then went on to work at the Charleston Naval Shipyard until he retired in 1979. Throughout his life Clarence was an active member of his current church Riverbluff Church formerly known as Midland Park Baptist and prior to that was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Goose Creek. He served the Charleston Baptist Association for many years as brotherhood director and royal ambassador's director. He was the construction superintendent for the building of the current First Baptist Church of Goose Creek in 1972.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara McMichael Thomas, of Goose Creek; his children, son Barry Thomas and daughter-in-law, Brenda, of Highpoint, N.C.; son, James Thomas and daughter-in-law, Susan, of Goose Creek; daughter, Candace Thomas Arant and son-in-law, Mark, of Wilmington, N.C.; son, John Thomas and daughter-in-law, Denise, of North Charleston. He was grandfather to seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Lucille Annibale and brother-in-law, Alfred, of Horry County; and a brother, Henry Thomas and sister-in-law, Jo, of Columbia.

Clarence will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Above all these things he will be remembered most for being a man of God, strong in his faith. He is now resting in the arms of God.

The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thomas are invited to attend his funeral service noon Saturday, April 18, 2009 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel.
