David Jackson Obituary

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH | David R. Jackson Sr., 76, also known as ''Dave'' and ''Big D,'' of N. Myrtle Beach, S.C, passed away Friday, November 23, 2007.

David was born in Greensboro, North Carolina and was a graduate of Greensboro High School, class of 1950. Later, he served with the Army in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. Using the GI Bill, he returned to Greensboro and graduated from Guilford College and became the office manager of Pump and Tank Shop Inc. in 1957. He went on to become the owner of the company in 1984. He was an active member of the North Carolina Petroleum Marketers Association and Petroleum Equipment Institute.

After semi-retiring and moving to N. Myrtle Beach, he became an avid golfer and active member of the Surf Club, eventually turning his attention to his one true passion, the care of homeless animals. He was a founding volunteer of the Humane Society of N. Myrtle Beach in 2001 and contributed many hours to caring for animals in need over the ensuing six years. It was often joked, ''The only thing better than being one of his sons, was being one of his dogs.''

''Lucky'' and ''Lilly'' will truly miss his love (and his cookies!).

He is survived by his wife, Sandra G. Jackson of the home; sons, David R. Jackson Jr. and Michael G. Jackson of Greensboro, N.C, and Jacob R. Jackson of Asheville, N.C; grandchildren Thomas, Tyler, Flannery and Jane; and a granddaughter, due in early January; sister, Helen Hansen of Hisperia, Calif.; daughters-in-law, Jo Ann Jackson and Ellen Jackson of Greensboro, and Christine Rokeby-Jackson of Asheville.

A memorial service will be held 11:15 a.m. Sunday, December 2, 2007 at The Church of the Lost and Found, located at the Ocean Drive Pavilion in N. Myrtle Beach, where he was an active member. The family will receive friends following the service at the Pavilion.

Sandra, I was so sorry to hear about David. Hut Moody keeps everybody informed. I really have thought about you often as I am back in the house I grew up in on Scott Ave. and come home by way of Northridge where your friend Mary Jane lived. Did you live there too?? I can't remember. Anyway, I live at 409 Scott Ave., Greensboro, 27403 and my phone no. is (336)855-0144. If you are ever up this way, please call me. I still work with my brother, Alec, in Wrenn-Zealy Properties, (336) 272-3183. I am so sorry for your loss. I can deeply sympathize with you because I lost my son on May 5. He was only 45 and was killed in a boating accident in the Bahamas. I just want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Anne Wrenn Russell
