Murrells Inlet, South Carolina - Donald P. Brooks age 83, husband of Andrea Andrews-Brooks died on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at his residence, following his confrontation with ALS. Mr. Brooks was born on March 14, 1938 at Gloversville, NY the son of the late Frances and Cecil Brooks.
After retirement Mr. Brooks relocated to Murrells inlet, SC an area, life style and people he truly cared for. He volunteered at Brookgreen gardens as a docent sharing his love of the area and its history with the patrons of the gardens. His other notable pleasure was as a volunteer instructor for various Driver Safety Programs, which he taught since 1995.
Survivors include his loving wife Andrea as well as three children Lori Brooks-Singleton of Camillus, NY; Teresa Parkinson and her husband John of Durham, NC; Brian P. Brooks and his wife Mary of Palmyra, NY and three grandchildren Emma and Noah Brooks and Nathaniel Singleton. Two brothers John Brooks of Highland, NY, Roger Brooks of Williamsburg, VA and a sister Patricia Brooks of McKinney, TX.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at All Saints Church in Pawleys Island, SC.
The Family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Brookgreen Gardens, P.O. Box 3368 Pawleys Island, SC 29585 or The Duke ALS clinic at 932 Morreene Rd. Durham, NC 27705.

My deepest sympathy to Andrea and family. Don & Andrea are wonderful people and great people to work with at the NYS Thruway. They both took a chance hiring me and I can't thank them enough for giving me that chance.

I didn´t know Don, but I know Teresa and she loved her dad and I heard about him a lot through the years. Such a go getter with energy and spunk! I remember when he was diagnosed with als. Devastating. Thought it was all over but nope. He stayed positive and energetic and spunky year after year after year. Inspirational. I´m assuming Andi had a big part in that. I´m so very sorry for your loss, but gosh, it was a really good run. I´m proud to have been a part of the ALS Wind Breakers Team honoring Donald Brooks.
