Mrs. Edith Jane Shumaker Suthard, age 98, passed away six days before her 99th birthday on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Loris Extended Care Facility. Born on May 28, 1913 in Grottoes, VA, she was the daughter of Mr. Edward Whitfield Shumaker and Mrs. Clara Grotton Mundy Shumaker. Mrs. Suthard was a homemaker, a Blue Ribbon Quilter, admired artist and longtime member of Loris First United Methodist Church. Edith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends. The family would like to express their extra love and affection for all of Edith's caretakers at Loris Extended Care Facility.
Survivors include her son, Mickey Ellis Suthard of Largo, MD, three daughters, Clara Estelle Quist of New Bern, NC, Audrey Lee Forder of Rockville, MD and Susan Jane Baker of Myrtle Beach, SC, twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Suthard was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Ellis Herbert Suthard and three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Loris First United Methodist Church with Pastor Grady Corder officiating. Committal services will follow at Twin City Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Loris First United Methodist Church, 3507 Broad St., Loris, SC 29569. I work at the Extened Care Center, and Mrs. Edith was a much loved resident at our facility, loved both by the employees and the many residents who knew her. She was a sweet, kind, thoughtful and wonderful lady. She will be missed by all of us.
