Edward Reed Obituary
CALABASH, N.C. | Edward Lawrence Reed Sr., 82, of Myrtle Court SW, formerly of Mamaroneck, N.Y., died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at home.
He was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Mamaroneck, a son of the late Adrian M. and Florence James Reed.
He was a retired New York Telephone Company employee, as were his father and grandfather. He was a proud member of 1103, the Communication Workers of America. He was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers. He was an avid bowler and bowled a 289 game in league competition in his 80th year. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was predeceased by a brother, Adrian M. Reed.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Josephine ''Jo'' Schrader Reed; nine children; Florence Hall and her husband, George, of Long Island, N.Y., Edward Lawrence ''Larry'' Reed Jr. and his wife, Judith, of Calabash, William M. Reed of Mamaroneck, N.Y., James A. Reed and his wife, Sparky Sue, of Nashville, Tenn., Adrian M. Reed of Rockland, Maine, Christopher Reed and his wife, Linda, Boynton Beach, Fla., Jane A. Franks of Mamaroneck, Judith M. Reed of Calabash and Steven F. Reed and his wife, Maria, of New York; four foster children, James Delmedico of Monroe, Conn., George Hockar of Mamaroneck, Susan Talevi of Apex, N.C., and Rose Marie Page of Guilderland, N.Y.; a brother, James E. Reed of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Mary ''Coley'' Katschke of Panaca, Nev., and Adeline Morgen of Norwood, Mass.; several grandchildren that will miss their loving grandpa, Nancy Meyer, George Hall, John Hall, Julie, Jennifer and Ryan Reed, Matthew Reed, David and Sarah Reed, Christopher Reed, Katie, Rachel, Justin and Matthew Franks, Owen Reed, James Delmedico Jr., Heather, Nicole and Anthony Delmedico, Stephen Hockar and Cheryl Weaver; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brunswick Funeral Service and Crematory in Shallotte, N.C.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Brendans Catholic Church.
A memorial service will be conducted at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Mamaroneck at a later date.
