Eldridge Rowell Obituary
Myrtle Beach, SC
Mr. Rowell was born on September 22, 1934 in Loris, SC, to Shepard (Coy) and Willa Mae Rowell, and passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018 in Myrtle Beach. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1952-1954 and was retired from the US Postal Service. He was a volunteer with the Crescent Beach Rescue Squad during the 1960's, and was a long-time active member at First Baptist Church (and the Adult Workers Class) in North Myrtle Beach, SC. In his retirement years, he loved to spend time walking and writing poetry, with several poems published, and loved dogs.
"EJ" is survived by his loving wife of nearly 42 years, Betty Rowell, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and a step-son, David Witherspoon, of Roswell, GA. EJ and Betty raised her grandchildren as their own, Tabatha Barnhill of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Jaysen Witherspoon of Buford, GA.
EJ is also survived by three children, Gary Rowell and June Shirley of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Eddie Rowell of Longs, SC. There are lots of grandchildren as well, including Krissy Pearce, Brian and Shannon Shirley, Emily Hardee, Justin Rowell, and Zachary Witherspoon. Great-grandchildren are Austin and Dalton Pearce, Camden Shirley, AnnaBeth Hardee, and Colton and Caysen Witherspoon.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in North Myrtle Beach, SC, with visitation with the family following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kind Keeper Animal Rescue, 1500 LD Dr., North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.
