Elizabeth Cozart Obituary

YARMOUTHPORT, Mass. | Elizabeth J. ''Bette'' Smith Cozart, 84, of Yarmouthport, Mass., died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 after a long illness.

Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, Mrs. Cozart was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Margaret Reid Smith, and the wife of the late Leighton M. Cozart, who died in 1975. Mrs. Cozart graduated from Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H., and pursued a career with the government in Washington, D.C. as secretary to a senator from Texas during the 1940's. Mrs. Cozart made San Antonio, Texas her home for 27 years until she retired to Little River, where she enjoyed golfing. She moved to Yarmouthport, Mass. in 2004 to be closer to her sisters and family. She was a member of the Mah-Jongg group at King's Way in Yarmouthport, Mass., and enjoyed the friendships, competition and acceptance from her new friends.

She is survived by three sisters, Margaret V. Vose of Searsport, Maine, Louise ''Lulu'' Schatzle of Orleans, Mass., and Marlene S. Hogg of Plymouth, Mass.; her lifelong friend, Glenna Downing of Little River; and many nieces and nephews who will remember her love and generosity.

She was predeceased by her brother, Charles E. Smith Jr.; and her nephew, Peter Schatzle.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, Mass. Interment will be private in Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman, Mass.
