Dear Laurie, Erin, Ryan and Family:

The poet Coleridge wrote that "there are such things as fountains in the world".

Gene was such a life-and-love-giving source. Though utterly unflashy, he gave, and people drew from him, humor, gentleness, concern and comraderie as readily as water pouring from a hillside spring.

We are all sadder and our hearts more parched now that he is gone.

May The One Who Is Comfort, comfort you now and in the times to come.

Dear Callan family,
My heart and prayers go out to all of you. I always looked forward to seeing Gene over at Mercy when I dropped my weekly papers off. He wore such a beautiful smile and his face would light up even more when he saw my little baby girl, as would hers! He loved his family so much! I loved hearing all the stories about his beautiful kids too. They were the light of his life! We were all so blessed to have Gene in our lives. He is one bright beautiful face we will carry in our hearts for all time. Thank you for the happy memories Gene, we will miss you dearly!

You were one of a kind: a gentle, thoughtful man of integrity, kindness, and love. Your devotion and intense love for your wife, children, and parents was inspiring to everyone in the office. Your distinctive, infectious laughter could be heard down the halls and you couldn't help but laugh along, even if you didn't know what was so funny. I can not imagine coming to work and not talking to you across the hall, helping you with your printer :-), listening to a story about your children, or seeing their latest photo you took. Your eyes actually seemed to light up when you spoke of your children--you were a great Dad. I don't know that I have ever witnessed a man more devoted and appreciative of his family.

Future employees, neighbors, patients, and their families in the whole county were robbed of the opportunity to work with a special man. My thoughts, tears, and prayers are with his family now and always.
