Gregory Deshields Obituary

Gregory T. Deshields
North Myrtle Beach
Gregory "Greg" Townsend Deshields, 61, of North Myrtle Beach, passed away on November 7th, following a valiant battle with cancer. He was born May 20th, 1950 in Newport News, Virginia, son of the late Fannie "Skippy" Hope Deshields and the late Danford "Danny D" Mannix Deshields. He is survived by his sister, Carla Deshields Shriner and her husband Chuck, of Richmond, VA, his niece Elizabeth Beverly and her husband Robert of Charlottesville, VA, his nephew Christopher Leonard and his wife Michele, his great-nephews Owen and Aidan Leonard and great-niece Ashley Leonard, of Newtown Square, PA.
A 27 year resident of North Myrtle Beach and a Virginia Tech Hokie, Greg's zeal for a good book, a good game of golf, a good run on the beach, and a good party with his friends brought him much joy over the years. His family meant more to him than he could often say, but when he spoke, there were no words or sentiments more genuine. His lifetime commitment to living the good life reminded those around him to not sweat the small stuff or the big stuff, create a little fun in every day, and when you care about something or someone, do it with fervor.
His kind heart, warm spirit, perfect blend of easygoing and passionate natures will be missed every moment of every day. For this is last call, we raise our glasses to you, our brother, our uncle, our friend.
Organized by Jeff Keyser, a local tribute to the life of Greg Deshields will be held at Captain Poo's on November 15th from 6pm-10pm.
Condolences may be sent to the family via Lee Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1116, Little River, SC 29566.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent Sea Haven Shelter Home, P.O. Box 600, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29597 or Mercy Hospice Care, 8216 Devon Court, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572.
Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of Little River/North Myrtle Beach is serving the family.

I only learned today of Greg's passing. It's been many many years since I last saw him, but his smile, his laugh, and of course his dancing, will remain in my heart forever. The world is slightly sadder without this good-hearted man.

I remember Greg from his first job at the telephone company when he finished college. Even then, he was a great guy; loving beach music, sports of all kinds, everything Va. Tech, and socializing with everyone.

Greg was my wonderful friend and one of the most caring people in the world! I have so many great memories from when we were together and all the fun we had with our friends, those can never be replaced. I will always remember dancing to "My Lady Soul," the only shagging I could do. I may not make it down, but here's to you Greg. We love and will miss you.
