NORTH MYRTLE BEACH | Bryan Floyd, a native of Horry County, was born in Loris, South Carolina, 1935, a son of the late Jessie Obie Floyd and Florrie Gause Floyd. He graduated from Loris High School and attended Wofford College on a football scholarship. He moved to Ocean Drive Beach, now part of North Myrtle Beach, in December of 1958 to manage Hoskins Restaurant.

Floyd served on the Ocean Drive City Council and the North Myrtle Beach City Council for 22 consecutive years, six of these as Mayor. He was Mayor of North Myrtle Beach from 1974 - 1980, and it was under his administration that the Community Center on Possum Trot Road was built, as well as the library on 2nd Avenue North. Under his leadership as Mayor, the Council-Manager form of government was adopted for the City. The present City Complex on Bay Street was also started during his administration.

He was a member of the Ocean Drive Lions Club in the late 1950's and served as its President in the 1960's. He was a longtime Mason, a Shriner, and a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He coached Little League Football for the City of Ocean Drive Beach during the 1960's.

In the late 1960s, Floyd and his partners built Robbers Roost and Possum Trot Golf Courses; they built Bay Tree Golf Plantation in the early 1970's. He served as President of CaroStrand Corporation, the parent organization of Bay Tree, and his organization brought an LPGA Championship Tournament to Bay Tree in 1977. He served on the Board of Directors of Golf Holiday for 20 years and was its President in 1991 and 1992. Floyd served on the Advisory Board of the South Carolina National Bank, now Wachovia Bank, in the late 1970's and 1980's.

He was one of the founders of the 1st Atlantic Bank of Little River, which later merged with Anchor Bank and today is part of Carolina First Bank. He served on the Board of Directors of both 1st Atlantic and the Anchor Bank, as well as on the Board of Carolina First. He served as a member of the Board of Trustee of Loris Healthcare System, the parent company of Loris Hospital and Seacoast Medical Center.

In 2001, Floyd was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Jim Hodges in recognition of his many contributions to the State of Couth Carolina and the City of North Myrtle Beach. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in North Myrtle Beach from the 1950's and served on their Board of Trustees.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; three children, Keith Floyd and his wife, Nancy, Cindy Floyd Jones and her husband, Billy, and Tina Floyd Yates and her husband Lenton Jr., all of North Myrtle Beach and Little River; two stepchildren, Elizabeth Teal and her husband, Ralph of Myrtle Beach, and Hal Jenrette of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters, Pauline Campbell and Ruby Stanley of Loris, Mildred Jordan and her husband, Harold of Charlotte and North Myrtle Beach, Sylvia Breeden and her husband, John of North Myrtle Beach; three brothers, Wayne Floyd and his wife, Bonnie, and Charles Floyd and his wife, Gayle of Myrtle Beach; Jimmy Floyd and his wife, Marilyn of Little River; and a sister-in-law, Rena Floyd of Green Sea; nine grandchildren, Courtney Floyd, Whitley Floyd, Janelle Floyd, Sarah Coates, Rebecca Coates, Travis Yates, Forrest Yates, Tradd Teal and Beau Teal; and his devoted helper and friend, Deacon Robert Riggins.
