John DuRant Obituary

CUMMING, Ga. | John Wesley DuRant Jr., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 29, 2006.

He was born at his home in Georgetown County on Aug. 28, 1934, a son of the late John Wesley DuRant and Emily Underdown DuRant.

For almost forty years Mr. DuRant was a stockbroker in Myrtle Beach with Interstate Johnson Lane and Mid-Atlantic Securities. He was a founding member and elder of Pine Lakes Bible Church in Myrtle Beach and recently a member of All Saints Church of Pawleys Island. Mr. DuRant loved people and ministry and had a joyful heart and a wonderful sense of humor. Above all, he loved his Savior and longed to see Him face to face. Among his many activities, he preached at Pines Lakes and Apache Campground for several years, visited hospital patients, and led a discussion group with Bible Study Fellowship. He was a past member of the Rotary Club and Dunes Golf and Beach Club and a charter member of the S.C. chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Mr. DuRant was a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy and The Citadel, where he served on the Honor Committee.

He leaves behind his beloved and faithful wife, Patricia Panartos DuRant; his daughter, Danielle Manon DuRant of Cumming, Ga.; his son, John Wesley DuRant III and his wife, Lynda, of Savannah, Ga.; his sister, Susan Davis of Tempe, Ariz.; two grandchildren and six nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Howard DuRant of Camden, S.C.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, at 12 p.m., at Pines Lakes Bible Church, with burial to follow at Union Methodist Church in Georgetown County at 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Samaritan's Purse and Bible Study Fellowship.

Condolences may be sent to the family via the funeral home's online guest registry at www.msfh.net and MyrtleBeachOnline.com.

Dear Pat, Daniele, John and family,

Our heartfelt condolences at the passing of your dear husband and father. We did not find out about his passing until this morning and were so saddened to have missed the memorial. We all remember fondly the kindnesses and hospitality your family extended to us while neighbors. John was a bright light that shone for his Lord until the end. May you find strength and encouragement knowing his life touched many and left a Christ-like impression with us which we have not forgotten over the years.

John and Lynda,

Just wanted you to know that I saw this in the paper and am thinking of you at this time. I don't know the circumstances, but I do know that you have the assurance that your dad is now with our Father. I know that he must have been a truly remarkable gentleman, because as his son, you have always displayed a kindness, gentleness, and true concern for others.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

In His love,

Lorelei

John Wesley,

Please accept my sincere sympathy to you and your family for the loss of your father. I know this must be very difficult to lose a parent. Alot of time has passed since our days at Coastal Academy but I have always remembered you with great fondness.

Hope you are doing well.

John, I worked for many years in Savannah at the same company with your father. You may not remember me, but it was always such a pleasure to talk with your father. I always laughed at his corny jokes, but he always got around to witnessing. I remember when you first came to work in the Savannah Office. God bless you.

Pat and Family,

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Johns passing. I remember him not only at the Chapel but also when my Dad and Mom ( Bill and Ann Troxell ) ask him to speak on Sunday mornings at Apache Camp Grounds. Through Mr. John, many, many people accepted the Lord as their Saviour. My thoughts and prayers will be with you all.

Patricia, I have not ceased praying for you and for Johnny during his and your terrible fight for his healing in this life. I can only imagine your loss; but know that you are comforted by knowing he's healed now and with his Savior, Jesus.

Jack has had bi-lateral knee replacements and we couldn't drive him up tonight. Tomorrow, unfortunately, is his appointment in Chas. with his orthopedist. It's at 3:15 so we couldn't make either funeral or burial. We are both so sorry. Our prayers will be with you and the family.

I have felt close to you both since we took the "Thank You, Canturbury" trip some years ago. I pray you will stay in touch with your All Saints family. Fondly, Skip and Jack

Mrs. Pat - I was so sorry to hear of Mr. John's passing. I so enjoyed seeing him everyday when he had his office here with us. He always had a smile on his face when he walked in in the mornings to get his coffee. I loved him dearly and I will never forget "Mr. John". I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Please stop by or give me a call sometime.
