Kenneth MacLeod Obituary

Kenneth Parker MacLeod, Jr
August 3, 1944 - March 25, 2018
Myrtle Beach
Kenneth Parker MacLeod, Jr. (Ken), 73, passed away March 25, 2018, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, following a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Ken was born in Bangor, Maine on August 3, 1944, the first child of Maida Cosseboom MacLeod and Kenneth Parker MacLeod, Sr.
After graduating from Brewer High School in 1962, where he played varsity sports and served on Student Council, Ken enlisted in the Air Force. He served in Vietnam as an air traffic controller at Tan Son Nhut Air Force Base, then one of the busiest airports in the world.
In 1966 he married Kazuko Shinzato, whom he first met while stationed in Tokoyo; their first child Maida, was born in Okinawa in 1967. Their second child Laura was born in 1968 in Limestone, ME.
After twenty years of service to his country, Ken retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant. He ensured that his last active duty posting was Myrtle Beach, where he and his family continued to live after his retirement. Ken was soon working as an air traffic controller again, this time at Horry County Airport, where his technical and management skills earned him a spot as Tower Supervisor. A wonderful storyteller, Ken often entertained friends and family with funny tales from his life in the Tower.
Following the death of his daughter Maida in 1994, Ken retired a second time, launching a new career as an avid collector of ephemera and pinbacks, which he bought and sold on Ebay and at local auctions.
Over time, he was the proud owner of three Scotties, and a faithful friend to all bluebirds in the neighborhood of Mallard Circle. He also enjoyed reading, old movies and most televised sports, including college football and basketball.
He and Kazuko were divorced in 1998. In 2000 Ken married Cindy Maney. They were divorced in 2009.

Ken is survived by his daughter Laura McCrackin, son-in-law Randall McCrackin, three beautiful and talented granddaughters, Bailey, Casey and Carmen, all of whom live in Pensacola, FLA; and by his younger sister, Kathy MacLeod Hooke, who lives in Portland, Maine. He is also survived by three half-siblings: Scott MacLeod of Orrington, Maine, Barry MacLeod of Brewer, Maine, and Audrey MacLeod Peavey of Naples, FLA. He is survived as well by his paternal aunt Dorothy Rowe of Brewer, Maine; and by his maternal aunt and uncle, Sally and Al Webster, of Maine and Florida.
In addition to his daughter Maida, Ken was preceded in death by his parents, and his twin sister Pamela, who died in 2007.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Information will be posted on the website of Myrtle Beach Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heartland Hospice in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Condolences to family--Parker was a great friend and team mate at Brewer. I grew up with Parker and Pam and remember us playing ball and his family. Met his grandparents Cossebooms for whom a atlantic salmon fishing fly is named.
Talked to Parker while here in No Myrtle couple of years back and remembered good times we had. Started me on collecting pins and still sell today on eBay.
Please let me know when funeral will be as I would like to attend as I am here for rest of month
Wish family well -please let me know
