Leon P. Spangler
January 27, 1926 - January 2, 2015
Pawleys Island
Leon P. Spangler, 88 of Pawleys Island died Friday January 2, 2015 at his residence. He was born January 27, 1926 in York, PA, a son of the late Kerwin H. and Belinda J. Yates Spangler and was predeceased by his wife, Annette Read Spangler. Leon graduated from York High School and the Lebanon Valley College in Lebanon Valley, PA. He was a decorated Veteran of the US Army, receiving the Purple Heart, EAME Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, a Bronze Star, and the Good Conduct Medal for his service during WWII. He also volunteered at the Baskerville Food Pantry and was a member of Belin United Methodist Church where he served on the Nurter Committee.
Surviving are two daughters, Terri (Dr. Mark) Triana and Jill (Bill) Hillegas, both of Pawleys Island; Son - Leon (Kelly) Spangler, Wonder Lake, IL; brother Kerwin (Jane) Spangler of Simmsbury, CT. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am Friday at Belin United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Scott Johnson. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
