Rachel Hammond Monckton, age 98, died on November 19, 2015 at Grand Strand Healthcare, Myrtle Beach, SC Rachel was born in Lancaster, S. C. The daughter of the late Edward Francis Hammond and Beulah Mobley Hammond.
Rachel was married to William Henry Monckton IV on February 7, 1940 until his death October 11, 1982. They loved the game of golf. She continued to play golf throughout her life. The Dunes Club course was her favorite. Her love of the low country of South Carolina was always with her. She enjoyed painting lovely seascapes. Rachel was a member of the DAR and Trinity Church in Myrtle Beach.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Caroline Walker, brothers Michael Hammond and Edward Hammond.
Rachel is survived by her daughters, Caroline M. Smith (Knoxville, TN), Patrica Ann Green (Mount Pleasant, SC) and her son William Henry Monckton V and his wife Ann (Myrtle Beach, SC).
She is also survived by 8 grandchildren. Regan Smith Coxe (Miles) Edenton, NC , Caldwell Monckton Smith (Casey), Knoxville,TN., Thompson Green (Kimmy), Houston, TX., Christy Green Servedio (Patrick), and Marshall Green, Calif. Billy Monckton VI (Terri), David Monckton (Lynn), Munroe Monckton (Kelly) all of Myrtle Beach SC. How blessed she was to also have 13 great grandchildren.
Her family would like to thank her dear friend and caregivers, Patty Von Shoppe, and Dan Farley of Trinity Church.
A celebration of Rachel's life will be held on Monday, November 23th at 2pm at Trinity Church 3000 N. Kings Hwy., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Church or the charity of your choice.
