Andy joined the Marines in 1977 and was later stationed in Virginia. He was offered a job in the apprentice program for welding at NNSY. He graduated from the program in 1984 and retired in 2015. He proceeded to share his knowledge as a Welder Instructor at QED.

He was an active member of Real-Life Christian Church since it was established. As a devoted follower of Jesus, he spent time uncovering God's Word, sharing it with all those around him. Andy made it a priority that his family was rooted in faith and truth. He was also an avid boater who enjoyed quality time with his family and friends. As a family man, he enjoyed his grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as "Grandpy".
