Barry Amell Obituary

Barry D. Amell
Born: March 14, 1942 in Streator, IL
Died: February 26, 2025 in Manville, IL
Barry D. Amell, 82 of Manville passed away Wednesday (February 26, 2025) at his home.
A visitation will be held Monday from 10a.m. until 12noon at the Winterrowd Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery with full military honors conducted be members of the Streator American Legion and VFW.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kit Hallowell, Tim Karth, Paul Goluba, Brian Durdan, Eric Harcharik and Lisa Durbin.
Barry was born on March 14, 1942, in Streator to Louis and Lois (Schroeder) Amell Sr.
Surviving are daughters, Karie (Brian Durdan) Hallowell and Angela (Eric Harcharik) Goluba both of Streator, grandchildren, Ashley (Tim) Karth, Austin Goluba, Jasmin (Kit) Hallowell and Rheagan Goluba, 2 great grandchildren Warren and Bradley Karth, former wife Marcia Amell, brother-in-law, Kurt (Jamie) Benckendorf and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son in law David Hallowell, brothers, Louis Jr., Bruce, Neil, Ed, Don and Charles, sisters, Ellen Marshall, Marge Rodrick and Judy DeFrees and a sister in infancy.
Barry graduated from Streator High School in 1960. He served in the US Army during Vietnam and received a Bronze Star. He was the Owner and Proprietor of Jodie's Smoke Shop and was a drywaller.
Barry was a member of the Streator Elks Lodge, American Legion, VFW, Streator Eagles and U.C.T.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Spinal Muscular Atrophy or the Streator American Legion.
Barry enjoyed spending time with his family. Although he may have not always said things to them directly, they knew he was proud of their accomplishments. There was nothing he wouldn't do for them.
He had a specific schedule that could not be swayed. Going to the post office and making his rounds to see his friends was something that he always did with banter back and forth with him "stirring the pot" and learned more by "listening ". Barry had a way of pulling a "disappearing act" which he did for one last time. He will be greatly missed by many.
