Barry Corsolini Obituary

Barry 'Chico' Corsolini
Born: May 7, 1951
Died: January 27, 2023
Barry "Chico" Corsolini, 71, of Ottawa passed away early Friday, January 27, 2023.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial visitation will be on Saturday, February 4th at Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley, IL from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The Ladd American Legion Honor Guard will conclude the visitation with military honors at 12:00 PM. A celebration of Chico's life will also be scheduled in the future.
Chico was born on May 7, 1951, to Goldie and Boopa Corsolini of Ladd, IL. He was the oldest of 6 siblings: Rich Corsolini, Kris (Ray) Marenda, Lisa (Mark) Hoffert, Maria (Mark "Bergy") Bergagna, and Mary (TJ) Zecca; and a proud member of the "Outlaws" with Barb (Mike) McGrogan and big brother to Beth (McGrogan) Melvin.
Chico graduated from Hall High School, Class of 1969. He married Lorie Fusinato. He played for the Illinois Valley Rugby club for several years. He then joined the Illinois National Guard and was stationed in Fort Lewis, WA. After being honorably discharged, he returned to the Illinois Valley where he worked as a salesman at Tri-City Hardware.
Chico was most notably a Regional Sales Representative for Mautino Distributing Co. in Spring Valley. His ability to make connections resulted in the initial introduction of Coors Light to the area which remains one of the most popular beers today. In his most recent business adventure, he was part owner of RO Water-Pros water store in Peru. The store was a vital resource for area residents. Chico was very proud of his first business adventure with his good friend, the late Randy Schumacher.
Chico's true passion, when he wasn't meeting new people, was to create. He excelled in home renovations, woodworking, cabinetry, and general contracting. Chico had the ability to see the potential in every project and every person that asked for his services.
Chico married his best friend, Karen (McGrogan) Corsolini on January 16, 2001. They shared many memories and travels together. There were countless good times between the islands with their Shoreline Boat Club friends. They added the "Winnie-dego" to their fleet in recent years which expanded their adventures branching to national parks throughout the country.
Chico was known to all as the mayor of the Illinois Valley. Telling stories and sharing countless laughs. You could hear his voice and laugh above all others at any bar he was at. He was a father figure to many and tried as hard as he could to keep his kids in line. Most notably ripping an unkempt shirt off of Matt in a bar and giving him his own shirt. Chico was shirtless in the bar for only a moment until getting another one.
He loved being "Papa" to all of his grandkids. Giving rides on his lawn mower and hosting pool parties in the summer. He was always a phone call away when the kids needed any advice or tutorials on home improvement projects. He jumped at the chance to help with doctors' appointments, school pick up/drop off, and to help "Gigi" babysit.
Chico is survived by his wife Karen, of Ottawa; his 5 children Jason (Michelle) Corsolini of Ottawa, IL, Matt (Amy) Corsolini of Spring Valley, IL, Angela (Landon) Jakse of Houston, TX, Celeste (Tyler) McGrogan of Chicago, IL, and Zac (Sebby) McGrogan of Ottawa, IL; 9 grandchildren: Alayna, Gianna, Anna Maria, Jaden, Logan, Hunter, Ryker, Avery, and Atlee; as well as his five siblings and his in-laws.
He is preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Larry McGrogan.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family kindly requests donations for a memorial to be established to a charity in the future.
A guestbook may be signed and memories shared with the family by visiting bartofh.com.

So very sad to hear of your passing Chico. Your were quite the personality
and always brightened our days at the local grocery store in Ladd. My sincere condolences to Karen and your extended families on both sides, your brother Rich, and all the girls. You are now at peace with Goldie, Betty, and your great Buddy Randy. Oh, how everyone will miss this wonderful man who was loved by everyone he touched. Heaven gained another angel in you. So keep them all entertained up there Chico, their
gain is our loss! Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend your services due to health reasons. I'm just happy and blessed to have known you.

I was shocked to learn of Chico's passing. He was a classmate at Hall. Whenever I would see him I got a friendly greeting. He made sure everyone at a class reunion had a great time. Mr. Personality will be missed by the members of Hall class of 1969.

The class of 69 lost lost a dear classmate. Our reunions will not be the same without him. He was definitely a leader, great spokesperson and such a comic! I didn’t see Chico that much after graduation, but when I did, he always had a smile and wonderful greeting. He had such a bright and friendly personality that will always be remembered by all who knew him. We were traveling to Florida when I heard that he had passed. I am so sorry I will not be able to attend his memorial. My deepest sympathy and prayers to his family.

I could write a book on all the adventures Chico and I shared together since our friendship started in 1966. I'll never forget all the great times we had from high school, rugby, the bars, mushroom hunting, playing bocce ball at family reunions and to the fun times golfing. Rest in peace my Paisan...We'll meet again someday...keep the beer cold and save us a tee time at Heaven's golf course. Love you Chico... Itsu

Oh my goodness! Where to begin in remembering Chico Corsolini. He was such a good friend growing up "near the tracks" in Ladd. As a matter of fact, along with Frank, Kenny and Merle we were part of the Elevator Rats, with all of us having lived in the proximity of the old elevator! Chico's great smile and sense of humor will never be forgotten. We pray for his soul and his family that's left behind. Heaven just got a little livelier!

I’m proud to call Chico a friend! I never seen him without a smile or laughing. He also befriended my kids who also thought the world of him. Chico will be missed at our Shoreline Boat club as he was the life of the party!! I cherished his friendship when I was at my lowest. Please have a beer with Kara and tell her about her kitchen?

When ever someone would even mention Chico’s name I’d smile. You will be missed at the Kohr Kampout. We will plant a Pondersa Pine this year in front of the campgrounds in his memory. I’ll smile every time I look at it.

A SMILE
A smile is a very special thing. It costs nothing, but gives so much.
It creates happiness in the home. It fosters goodwill in business.
It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad.
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
Yet it cannot be begged, bought, or stolen.
It is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours.
For no one needs a smile as much as he who has no more to give.

It’s with a heavy heart that we offer condolences to Karen and the family. Even though we only knew Chico for the last 5 years, he had that outgoing and warm personality that made you feel like you’ve known him forever. It would be an understatement to say Chico was the life of the party. From the minute he walked in you knew he was there, and you were glad he was. We are so lucky to have known him and to have called him our friend. John says, “Every time I see a Coors Light I will think of him”.

As young kids, Chico and I were best of friends. While I went to St. Bede, and he went to Hall, we continued with our friendship. However, then I went away to college and medical school as well as residency, and he eventually moved to Ottawa. After that I sold him saw him that was definitely my loss. I will always remember his smile, and constant laughter. He could really light up a room. If you were down and depressed, he was the guy to talk to. He could always lighten up your day. I will pray for him and also pray that someday him and I will be able to see each other again and hopefully the laughter and good times will be once again be continued. God bless his soul and his family in this time of need.
