George H. Shute went to be with the Lord on the 23rd day of September, 2021.
George was born September 11, 1928 in Farm Ridge Township. He recently celebrated his 93rd birthday and his 72nd wedding anniversary on September 17th with the love of his life, Norma. Along with his wife Norma, he is survived by all of his children, Steven (Stacy) Shute, Mary Shute, Karen (Shute) Troye, Kim (Peter) Cahill, and Randy (Dianne) Shute. George also had four grandsons, Justin (Hannah) Cahill, Adam (Bree) Cahill, Erik (Nina) Shute, and Bobby Shute. George also had one granddaughter, Elizabeth "Liz" Shute. George also had four great grandchildren, Finnegan, Declan and Ava (Justin and Hannah) Cahill and Colin (Adam and Bree) Cahill.
George worked in a factory and farmed all his life. He knew the value of an honest day's work. In his later years he was a Caravan driver for OSF Saint Elizabeth's.
George and Norma built their home in Farm Ridge and resided there for over 50 years. It is quite a privilege to wake up every morning and see the sunrise and every evening the sunset.
George was an avid euchre player. He belonged to the Over the Hill Gang. The members were all from the surrounding community that met once a month to best each other. I really think it was the food that kept that gang together. Nothing like homemade goodies. Fast times in Farm Ridge.
George loved playing bingo at the Oglesby Elks and occasionally he'd win a game or two. He also enjoyed his "guy" time with his friends at the Chalet, and dining at Hank's and the Brite Spot.
A man of simple tastes – a true blue Cubs fan – and at least once a year he'd take in a game at Wrigley Field. His biggest story about Wrigley was how the weather could change from hot and sticky to a winter like chill between innings. So when he was in his early 80's he quit going.
All I can say is that at the end of a life all that is left and the only thing that matters is love. The winning and the losing are gone, the bad and the ugly forgotten and only love remains. We love you, husband, dad, gramps and great gramps. We are grateful for all you have done for us and for you being a beautiful husband, father and grandfather. We thank you for lessons learned and unlearned. We miss you but before you know it we will see what you are seeing now. GOD.
Per George's request private graveside services will be held at the Deer Park Cemetery. George was a board member of the Deer Park Cemetery Association for many years. The family requests all memorials be directed to the Deer Park Cemetery Association.
