Died: May 6, 2022 in Streator, IL
Glen R. Vissering, 92 of Streator passed away Friday (May 6, 2022) surrounded by his family at Heritage Health, Streator.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 – 7 PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home and Wednesday from 10 – 11AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Kevin Turner, Scott Mounce, Mike Cinnamon, Eric Vissering, Joe Avon and Davey Vissering.
Glen was born on January 13, 1930, in Flanagan to Herman and Wilma (Hike) Vissering. He married Sally A. Compton on July 30, 1949. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2019.
Surviving are children; Nancy Cinnamon, Kathy (Miles) Tuller, Mary (Bob) Avon, Mark (Gigi) Vissering, David (Lynn) Vissering and Paul (Lin) Vissering all of Streator, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, brother, Norman (Linda) Vissering of Colorado, sisters, Carol Zoll of California, Marie (Richard) Madson of Virginia, brother, Wendell (Linda) Vissering of Flanagan, brother in law, David (Kathy) Compton of Pontiac and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sally, grandsons, Joseph Cinnamon and Matthew Vissering, son-in-law Gary Cinnamon, brothers, Logan, Gary and Darold Vissering.
Glen attended schools in Flanagan. He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he was in the choir (even at the age of 90), past president of the church board of directors, and severed on many committees and a member of the Streator Elks Lodge.
He was past president and member of the Elementary School District 45., past president of State of Illinois Home Builders Association, past board of director and member of the National Association of Home Builders, past president and member of Association of the Streator Commerce and Industry, a recipient of the Cephas Williams Award, Senior Life director of National Association of the United States, past director of the Union Bank of Streator.
Glen was the owner and operator of Glen R. Vissering Construction Co., specializing in Residential, Commercial and Industrial Building.
Glen and Sally enjoyed their winters in Pharr Texas. Glen was a member of the "Men of A-Cord" Barbershop group, singing with members from Canada and most states of the U.S. and was also in a barbershop quartet called "The Brothers Four. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge having a 32-degree, member of the Scottish Rite and member of the Shriners.
He enjoyed camping with his family which was very important to him, fishing, woodworking, taking flying lessons and flying his own plane.
Memorials may be made in his name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
