Marcalene Hennenfent Obituary

Marcalene "Marcy" Hennenfent
Born: September 23, 1957
Died: February 13, 2025
Marcalene Mae "Marcy" Hennenfent, 67, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully at home in the care of her devoted family on Thursday, February 13, 2025. She wrestled bravely against cancer for four years and the last year battling Pure Red Cell Aplasia. She is now absent from her body and present with her Lord.
Marcy was born September 23, 1957 in Rock Island, Illinois, a daughter of Arthur August and Jacqueline Mae (Metzner) Nelson. She married Dan Hennenfent on July 28, 1979 at Aledo, Illinois. Marcy is survived by her devoted husband, Dan; her loving son Lucas (Alyssa) Hennenfent of Ottawa; and adoring grandchildren, Jett Hanson, Henry and Margeaux Hennenfent. She also leaves her mother, Jacqueline Nelson of Galesburg IL; a brother, Kent (Tracy) Nelson of Muscatine, Iowa; and sisters, Chris (Bob) Fulton of Galesburg, IL, Kathy (Rollan) Logan of Colorado Springs, CO and Tammie (Jeff) Houston of Knoxville, IL. Marcy's father, Arthur and an infant daughter, Sarah preceded in death.
Marcy is a 1975 graduate of AlWood High School in Woodhull, IL, and earned her Bachelor's in Education from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL, graduating with honors.
Marcy was an active and faithful member of Christ Community Church, participating in over 20 small groups throughout the years. She had a passion for education, teaching Health Education at Aledo High School and 17 years as a lead teacher at the Ottawa Opportunity School. Marcy also worked as an aide and companion to many elderly individuals and helped at-risk youth and adults through North Central Behavioral Health Systems. One of her greatest joys was co-hosting "The Afternoon Drive With Dan and Marcy" on WCMY 1430, a job that she truly loved. She was famous for her infectious laughter and radiant smile.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 22nd from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Christ Community Church, 807 LaSalle Street in Ottawa. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. John Nordstrom officiating. Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Memorial contributions to the Ottawa Opportunity School, 114 East Jefferson Street, Ottawa, IL 61350 or to the Christ Community Church Elevator Fund would be most appreciated.

Marcie, with her infectious smile & laugh, was a joy to talk with. My wife Ann & I got to know the family well & Marcie was like a behind the scenes glue that held things together, although when she needed to be "front & center," like with the radio program, she did that well. Marcie was a wonderful Christian example to all of us.
