Died: August 15, 2022 in Ottawa, IL
Mary Beth (Steiman) Schmitt, 96, of Ottawa, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Pleasant View.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022 at St. Columba Church with Msgr. Mark Merdian, Pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery.
Mary was born on December 4, 1925 in Dalton, Missouri to Earl, Sr. and Helen (Humphrey) Steiman. She graduated Brunswick High School in 1943 and University of Missouri with a Bachelor's of Science in Home Economics. Mary worked in the LaSalle County Extension Service. She married Christian J. Schmitt on June 7, 1952 in Dalton, MO. Mary was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the America Court Santa Maria #236 in Ottawa, IL for 69 years.
She is survived by two children, Catharine Suzanne Byrne of Elgin and Charles Schmitt of Ottawa; and four grandchildren, Christina and Charles Lester Schmitt and Michael and Kevin Byrne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Christian, on May 10, 2011; and her brother Earl Steiman, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Michael Byrne, Kevin Byrne, and Dennis Eisert. Honorary pallbearers will be Christina Schmitt and Charles Lester Schmitt.
Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association Illinois Valley Chapter.
