Melvin D. Treschak, 88, of Streator passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025 at the ARC in Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 20th at the St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator.
Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Wednesday, August 20th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 8:45 A.M.
Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Ottawa American Legion Post #33.
Born November 26, 1936 in Streator he was the son of George and Mary (Glencoe) Treschak. He married Beatrice Plichta on October 3, 1959. She preceded him in death on January 13, 2003. He later married Giovanna "Joan" Elias on August 14, 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Giovanna "Joan" Treschak; daughters, Karen (Gyorgy) Karpati and Cheryl (Scott) Davis; and a son, Craig (Debbie) Treschak all of Streator; stepbrothers and sisters, Michael (Kate) Murphy of Michigan, Thomas (Shaun) Murphy of St. Charles, Martin (Mary) Murphy of St. Charles and Siobhan (Kevin) Elias of Streator; grandchildren, Alexander Karpati, Bryan Davis, Bradley Davis, Brett Davis and Michael Buchanan, Melanie Baron, Natalie Lanoue and Stephanie Bowman; 8 great grandchildren; step grandchildren, Gabe and Murphy Elias; Erin and Kathleen Murphy; Rebecca Luck and Thomas Murphy; Mackenzie, Michael and Brian Del Signore; 1 step great grandchild; a sister, Norma (Herb) Honn of Normal; brothers in law, Eugene (Marge) Plichta of Streator and Donald Danko of Streator; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Mel touched the lives of many and also had many extended family members who meant a lot to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Beatrice; his son, Mark Treschak and his sister, Beverly Danko.
Born and raised in Streator he attended local grade schools and graduated from Streator High School.
He served in the United States Army during the Berlin crisis.
Mel made a lifelong career in flooring.
He was a member of the former St. Stephen's Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Parish. He was very active through the years coaching baseball and teaching CCD classes for many years. He was a 4th Degree member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Assembly 2109 and a 3rd Degree member of the Msgr. George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790. He served as the Grand Knight of the K of C as well. He served on the LaSalle County Board for several years and was a past member of the Sons and Friends of Erin.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the
