Wendell was born February 22, 1930, in Dublin, TX, to Fred Ard and Mary Elizabeth (Gayle) Sharp. In 1953, he married Eddie Ruth Carr of Kermit, TX, who preceded him in death in 1969. In 1974, he married Ida Marie Lockridge, who preceded him in death in 2006.
He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, and was employed by the US Post Office as a mail carrier in Marseilles until his retirement.
Wendell is survived by a daughter, Karen (Craig) Gardner, of Houston, TX; a son, Steve (Laura) Sharp, of Ottawa; grandchildren, Alison Young, Ashley Watson, and Sarah and Jonah Sharp; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Charlotte, and Norah Young, and Eleanor and Michael Watson; Marie's children, Jan Koetz and Larry Bowling; many nieces and nephews; and friends and neighbors from his long blessed life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Sherry Lynne Sharp; his wives; eight brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 23 at the Crotty Park shelter in Seneca, IL. Memorial service will be at 6 p.m. at the shelter with Rev. Abraham Moller of the Evangelical United Methodist Church officiating. Military honors will follow service. The family requests that all attending please wear a face covering. Burial will be in Bunyan Cemetery in Dublin, TX at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Seals-Campbell Funeral Home.
