I got to know Scott in 2006 while managing the update of the City of Fremont's General Plan. Scott was the staff planner assigned to work on the update; I had the pleasure and good fortune of serving as his supervisor for several years. I appreciated and relied on his land use planning expertise and his good sense and judgment. He was an enthusiastic contributor to the project from its inception in 2006 until the Plan´s adoption by the City Council in 2011. The Plan, which has guided Fremont´s "strategically urban" development for more than 10 years, is part of Scott´s legacy.
As his supervisor, I approved Scott´s leave requests, which usually involved trips to the mountains or to exotic foreign destinations, or both. I particularly recall a trip he made with his uncle to Argentina to climb South America´s highest peak, Aconcagua.
Scott left Fremont in 2013 or 2014 for a promotional opportunity in another city, but I wasn´t too surprised when I learned that he had resigned in 2015 to indulge his passion for travel and adventure in Asia. I talked to Scott a couple of times after his return to the US, but (sadly, in retrospect) I never managed to connect with him on one of his subsequent visits to Fremont.
I've attached a photo of Scott with community members at an outreach event for the General Plan project in 2006.
Scott was a talented planner, a great co-worker, and an adventurous soul. My condolences to Scott's family and friends on your loss.

My deepest condolences to Scott's family. Scott was my classmate in high school. While we lost touch after graduation, his laughter and warm smile still endures. He left a legacy of positivity and joy for the rest of us that will continue.
