Born April 16, 1954, in Streator she was the daughter of Andrew and Joann (Clark) Burash. She married Ralph D. "Dwain" Holt on February 21, 1973, at St. Stephen's Church in Streator. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2021.
She is survived by a daughter, Kaaren (Charles) Schoof of Richmond, Michigan; sons, Alan Holt of Streator and Thomas (Elizabeth) Holt of Speedway, Indiana; 9 grandchildren; her sisters, Monica Burash of Streator and Susie (Richard) Stehl of Streator; brothers, Andrew Burash of Grand Ridge, Richard Burash of Streator, Mike (Trisha) Burash of Sycamore, Danny Burash of Peru, and John (Noel) Burash of Florida; many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister-in-law, Cindy Burash.
Born and raised in Streator, Illinois, Sherry graduated from Streator High School, where she met the love of her life, Dwain. The two were married in 1973 at St. Stephen's Church, beginning a beautiful journey together that would result in 48 years of marriage. Their first year of marriage was spent abroad in Germany-an adventure that strengthened their bond and filled their early days with unforgettable memories.
Returning to the United States, Sherry and Dwain planted roots and built a loving home, raising their family together. Sherry poured her heart into being a homemaker, creating not only a warm and nurturing household but also passing along her love of art, cooking, music, action movies, and reading a good book.
As her family grew, Sherry returned to the workforce and found her second home at Union Bank, now Midland Bank, where she worked as a teller. She took great pride in her work and found joy in every customer interaction and the friendships she made with her co-workers. Her involvement extended beyond the bank's walls, including participation in the March of Dimes for several years.
A true artist at heart, Sherry had a creative soul. Whether it was painting, re-decorating her home, or baking from scratch, she made the ordinary extraordinary. Her kitchen was often filled with the sweet aroma of homemade treats and the sound of laughter from those lucky enough to gather around her table.
More than anything, Sherry loved being surrounded by friends and family. Her favorite moments were the simple joys of hosting cookouts in the backyard, having a fire, a good Rum and Diet Coke and watching the people she loved come together. Her legacy lives on in the meals she taught her children to cook and how she shaped her children into the people they are today.
Sherry will be remembered for her strength, her compassion, and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel at home. She was deeply loved, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
