William E. Wissen
Born: May 12, 1954 in Streator, IL.
Died: September 29, 2025 in Savannah, GA.
William E. Wissen, Jr., 71, of Savanna, Georgia and formerly of Streator passed away Monday, September 29, 2025 at his residence in Savannah, Georgia.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 18th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 18th at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Born May 12, 1954 in Streator he was the son of William E. Wissen, Sr. and Mary Lou (McKeon) Wissen.
He is survived by his daughters, Ryan (Randy) Burt of Louisville, Kentucky and Ashley (Gary Reeland) Lansford of Streator; long time partner, Mary Kay Cavanaugh of Savannah, Georgia; grandchildren, Maiya Lansford, Maddex Lansford, Oliver Burt, Eloise Cavanaugh and Rhett Reeland; his mother, Mary Lou Wissen of Streator; siblings, Paula Foltin of Streator, Gary (Debbie) Wissen of Streator, Debbie (John) Coley of Streator, Charlie (Kelly Peacher) Wissen of Streator, Lori (Greg) Schmitt of Streator and Tim Wissen of Streator; Jack (Heather) Cavanaugh and Jeff (Dalinda) Cavanaugh; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother-in-law, Max Foltin; nephews, Paul Wolfe and Luke Wissen and a great nephew, Hunter Wolfe.
Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated Streator High School in the class of 1972.
Bill became a Firefighter with the Streator Fire Department in 1980. He worked for the Department for 27 years achieving the rank of Chief at the age of 44. He retired in 2006. He spent most of his career in the old fire house before moving to the new Streator Fire Station in 2005. Wiss was instrumental in assuring that the new station was built, a fact he was very proud of.
He was a member of the former St. Anthony Church, George A. Dzuryo Knights of Columbus Council #790 and the Streator Eagle's Club.
After living in Streator his lifetime, he retired to Savannah Georgia where he met many good friends and enjoyed his time. He loved the Chicago Cubs, Bears and the Savannah Bananas. He also enjoyed fishing and a nice cold beer. In his last few years, he also became an avid Amazon shopper and loved buying gifts for his friends and family. He will be dearly missed.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
