Springfield – 1SG(R) Robert Patrick "Bob" Hynes, 76, passed away October 28, 2025 at his residence.

The New York native served in the U.S. Air Force as a Korean linguist and translator before joining active duty GA Army National Guard with a total of nearly 30 years. He then transitioned over to work at NAPA in Rincon for 15 years before retiring. He was a member of the Laurel Hill Lutheran Church, was on the Church Council, served on the Cemetery Committee, and served on the Effingham County Sunday School Convention Association Executive Committee. He served as secretary on the Veterans Park of Effingham County Board. He formerly served on the Band Boosters and Effingham County Recreation Department Board. He loved coaching his kids ball teams, camping with family, and crabbing. He volunteered at God's Mission House, loved reading, gardening, watching Jeopardy, and enjoyed his Men's Supper Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Patrick Hynes and Frances Elsie Cowick Hynes; sister, Judy Peck; and brother, Jim Hynes.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Julie Edwards Hynes; sons, Adam Robert Hynes and Lucas Joseph Hynes (Julie); grandchildren, Bryleigh Hynes, Adley Hynes, McKenna Hynes, and Callan Hynes; sisters, Donna Griffin, Diana DeGroat, and Kathy Osborne; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2025 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Laurel Hill Lutheran Church.

Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
