Aaron Shoffner Hughes, born November 4, 1963, in Meridian, Mississippi, passed away after a courageous and enduring battle with cancer on March 13, 2026, in Southaven, Mississippi. Throughout his life, Aaron embodied resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to his family and passions.
A proud graduate of Southaven High School, Aaron spent many years working alongside his father in the family lawn care business. Yet, it was beyond his work where his spirit truly shined. An avid hunter whose second home was his beloved deer stand, Aaron’s passion for deer hunting was not only a treasured pastime but also a meaningful thread woven into the fabric of his life. If he wasn’t actively hunting, he was happily sharing his knowledge about it, eager to teach and inspire others. A couple of deer hanging in Sportsman’s Warehouse stood as a testament to his skills and lifelong commitment to this beloved pursuit.
Aaron’s family was his greatest pride and joy. He was a devoted father to his son Aaron Hughes and Toni Brown, and his daughter Amy Hughes and John Phillips. His love extended warmly to his grandchildren—Andrew Hughes, Destiny Acres, Logan Eakin, JJ Phillips, and Hunter Phillips—and even to his great-grandchild, Damon Eakin. Aaron’s nurturing nature went beyond closeness; his daughter knew she could always call upon him, confident he would be there without hesitation to help in any way he could. This steadfast support was echoed in Aaron’s relationship with his brother Terrell, assisting tirelessly with his race cars whenever they took to the track.
Aaron’s kindness and generosity were hallmarks of his character. He was known for always offering a helping hand, whether or not he had prior experience, embodying a spirit of perseverance and selflessness. His love extended deeply to his siblings—Weldon Hughes Jr., Deborah (Ron) Hughes Luebbert, and Terrell (Janice) Hughes—as well as his mother, Virginia Hughes, and a large, cherished family of nieces and nephews.
Throughout his illness, Aaron showed remarkable strength, fighting fiercely to carve out more precious time with those he loved. His resilience and determination were a reflection of a life well-lived and a heart full of love. Aaron’s second home, his deer stand, symbolizes not just a place of solitude but a sanctuary where he found peace, reflection, and joy.
Aaron was preceded in death by his father, Weldon Hughes Sr., and Patricia Smotherman, the mother of his children—both of whom remain forever in the hearts of his family.
