Abel Lopez Jr., beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026. He was surrounded by family after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.
Abel was born on October 27, 1976, at St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio, to Jane (Arriaga) Lopez and Abel Lopez Sr. A man of few words but many actions, Abel was known for his steady presence, willingness to lend a helping hand, and his heart of gold. He was well-known and respected throughout his hometown of Genoa, Ohio.
The only things Abel loved more than Cleveland sports teams and the Ohio State Buckeyes were his family. He absolutely adored his nieces and nephews, always ready to roll around on the floor or give a piggyback ride. Abel greatly enjoyed his dart league nights with his cousins Mike and Buddy, as well as the memorable trips he shared with his cousins Roland and Angie, and his Uncle Bud and Aunt Mary.
As the eldest of four sons, Abel stepped up in immeasurable ways after the passing of his father, Abel Sr. He was a devoted and dutiful son to his mother, Jane, and a steadfast foundation of support for his three younger brothers. Abel was always the first to volunteer to help someone move, tackle a home project, or offer assistance of any kind. Dependability was not just a trait; it was the very nature of the man he was.
Abel was preceded in death by his father, Abel Lopez Sr. He is survived by his loving mother, Jane Lopez; his brothers, Carlos (Nicole), Ricardo (Erynne), and Roberto (Mallory) Lopez; and his cherished nieces and nephews, Ellison, Weston, Gabby, Teddy, Harvey, and Yvonne Lopez.
Abel will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and the deep love he had for his family. Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 West Street, Genoa, Ohio. A memorial ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 2, 2026, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Clay Township Cemetery. A luncheon will be provided at the Genoa American Legion Hall, 302 West Street, Genoa, Ohio, following interment.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
