Ruben Lopez

Ruben Lopez, 71, known as a storyteller, gardener, and self-proclaimed "survivor-list," passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, surrounded by close family. Born in Salinas, California, he later settled in Brawley. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic, owned a transmission business, and retired as a slot machine mechanic at Fantasy Springs Casino. He proudly called himself the "East Side Backyard Farmer," sharing his garden with everyone, especially zucchinis and tomatoes. He also loved Christmas and was known for his festive displays that brought joy to the community. He is survived by his wife, Grace Pacheco Lopez; daughters Gabrielle, Tiffany and husband Rodrigo Vargas, Rachelle, and Jennifer Lopez; grandchildren Sofia, Noel, Selena, Serena, and Hunter; his mother, Lupe Benabides; and his siblings Richard, Gloria, Narcissa, Christina, and Patricia. He is reunited in heaven with his brother, Ramon Carmona. Viewing: Friday, April 10, 8:00 AM at Brawley Frye Chapel & Mortuary, with rosary at 9:00 AM.
