To Aunt Mimi and all the family. It was my priveledge to be able to speak to my Uncle Abel the day before his party. I was able to tell him that I really appreciated him, wish him a happy birthday and that I loved him.
Jerimiah 1:5-"Before I, God, formed you in the womb,I knew you, before you were born I set you apart, I ordained you a prophet to the nations." Gods method has always been a man or woman of God. God has a plan and purpose for each one of us. It was my priveledge to have had known one such man and had one as an uncle, my Uncle Abel.
Gods best to you all and know that I pray for the family each day.
Compared to Eternity,we will see Uncle Abel again soon.

Richard and Anna Rodriguez send our sincere condolences to the entire Ortega family. Mr. Ortega was such a blessing to our granddaughter, his great-granddaughter, Tiffany Johnson. Tiffany's other grandma, Ruth, is a blessing as well.

I just saw Abel in August and I am so glad I was there to see the WWII POW come together one more time at the Last POW lunch/meeting. He was the life of the party. He was a great friend to my grandfather, Joe Lajzer and he will be missed.

The last conversation I had with Uncle Abel was at his birthday party. He kept asking me where his sister was(my mother), I asured him she was coming and he told me how thankful he was that my brothers were taking care of her. I told him that she was being cared for, Uncle Abel nodded and soon after my mom, his sister came into the room. He always cared for others more than himself.

I never had the honor of meeting Mr. Ortega. I just know him from the news story done on him on KENS 5. I also know him from the price he and other veterans pay to serve our country. Men like Mr. Ortega go to bed smiling knowing they have accomplished something in life. He lived through hell during the war and also lived to be an unheard of, 90 years. he seemed to be an amazing individaul who was not going down without a fight. But even the greatest heroes have to eventually give in to the Lord above. People walk freely everyday because of the freedom you and your generation fought for and provided for us. Mr. Ortega, thank you for the sacrifices you made for us all. I salute you sir. They say behind every strong man theres an even stronger woman, Mrs. Ortega I salute you as well. Your family has everything to be proud of in this hero of a man. God bless.

Chaplain Ortega -- I met you 2 years ago at White Sands. I asked you to say a prayer for a friend of mine then in Iraq. I only expected a brief nod but you took both of my hands in yours and offered a very long fervent plea to the Creator for "AJ"'s safe return. He did return safely to his wife and new baby girl --- again this year you offered thanks for his future well-being. I can't thank you enough for your kindness. God be with you, Sir

To all the Family, I am very thankful to be apart of the Ortega family. Dawn has gone to San Antonio to be with everyone. I wish I could be there. I love Abel Ortega and what he stood for. I will cherish the times I got to spend with him. In him I found a man who loved GOD and his Country. He is a true American, who raised great kids and touched many lives. He served the Lord and his country proudly. Sir, Thank you!!!!! God Bless the Ortega family, all the extended family, friends and the many others that have been blessed to have known Mr. Abel Ortega!!! I carry the memories forever. I Loved when he would tell a story, sit back, close his eyes, smile, laugh, sometimes cry......... A true man, a true Godly Man. Thank you God.... We Love you!!!!

I had the honor to meet and talk with Mr. Ortega this March when I participated in the Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands, New Mexico. This quiet man, along with his fellow Death March survivors, was the living definition of the word hero. They all possessed an inner strength that enabled them to survive horrors beyond our wildest nightmares.

Abel Ortega truly was a member of the "Greatest Generation", those men and women who saved the world from tyranny and oppression.

Mr. Ortega, it was an honor to meet you and to hear your story; now you are reuinted with your brothers in arms who have gone before you. May you rest in peace, Sir. It will be my honor to march in your memory next year.

Dear Naomi and Family,
Words don't help much in a time like this, but I'm going to write some anyway. Abel was one of the finest men I've ever known, and he will live on in the memories of people who knew him, and in the wonderful family who will continue on this earth. Abel and Naomi have been great friends to me, and I will never forget your help in my dark hours.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Much love,
Noel Taylor and family
