Abelardo “Abel” Reyes, 61, dedicated father of two and friend of many-passed away on January 26, 2023 surrounded by family in Odessa TX.
Abel was born on November 16, 1961 in Monahans TX, to Vidal and Arcilia Reyes. Abel was a proud graduate of Monahans High School in 1980. He soon moved to Odessa to begin his long lasting career in the oilfield, in which he made countless life long friends. Abel prided himself on his incomparable work ethic and dedication in providing for his family.
Through the years, Abel enjoyed golfing every weekend with his golfing buddies. He was a long time member of the Pan American Golf Association, Odessa Chapter. If time allowed and he could get away, he would try to sneak in a game right after work even if it meant only playing nine holes. Abel was a stranger to no one and found great purpose sharing successes, joys and challenges of those around him. Abel was authentically wholeheartedly there for those in his life. Everyone who knew Abel felt his big heart and giving nature. He will be missed by many. He was also a huge fan of the Texas Longhorns and enjoyed watching them weekly. Abel enjoyed spending time with family playing dominos, cards and other board games.
Abel was preceded in death by his mother Arcilia Reyes and his older brother Carlos Briones.
He is survived by his dear Julie Figueroa; father, Vidal Reyes; daughter, Desiree Reyes and wife, Lexi Reyes; son Adam Nunez; sister, Rachel Boyd and husband Mike Boyd, their children Kendal Lee, Alexas Lee, Paris Boyd; sister, Delma Reyes and daughter, Kirsten Nieto; brother, Sammy Reyes and son, Derek Reyes; and two great-nephews.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Reyes, Charles Cartwright, Jackie Johnson, Geno Montes, Frank Ochoa, and Manuel Torres.
There will be a visitation held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 10:00am-8:00pm at Harkey Funeral Home (210 S. Allen Ave Monahans TX). The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church (504 S. Alice, Monahans TX) at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023, officiated by Paster Rey Salgado and Pastor Joe Cordova.
