Elpidia Fuentes Contreras, 60, passed away on February 2, 2026. She was born on October 15, 1965, in Morton, Texas, to Domingo Estorga and Josefa Navarrette Fuentes.
Elpidia was a loving wife, family member, and friend whose warmth and joyful spirit touched everyone who knew her. She was married to her devoted husband, Ruben Contreras, and together they shared a life filled with laughter, music, and countless treasured memories, with her most cherished moment being the day they welcomed their pride and joy, their son, Phillip Contreras born December 10, 2006.
She had a vibrant personality and found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Elpidia loved cooking, catering, dancing, and music; especially the 80’s and 90’s; Def Leppard and Poison were an example of two of her favorites. She attended school in Monahans, Texas, where she played volleyball and was extremely proud of being a part of the band, the band that played for a Dallas Cowboys game at the Texas Stadium where she had the honor of meeting Too Tall Jones, something she always spoke of fondly. She served as an alter girl at St. John the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church along with her sister, Carmen, she loved the color red, was a fan of Marvel, enjoyed the relaxation of fishing, and camping, and not to mention, the love she had for her nieces and nephews whom she always had around.
Elpidia was preceded in death by her parents, Domingo Estorga Fuentes and Josefa Navarrete Fuentes; and her brother, Gabriel Fuentes.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ruben Contreras; her son, Phillip Contreras; her siblings, Eva Santiago (Tony), Jenaro Fuentes (Pamela), Carmen Fuentes (Joseph Hendriex), Domingo Fuentes Jr., Andress Fuentes, Johnny Fuentes (Kristen); her nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
A viewing will be held from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 8, 2026, with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at Harkey Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 9, 2026, at St. John the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church with a burial to follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Contreras, Adam Santiago, Santiago Fuentes, Isaac Santiago, Angel Maldonado, Johnny Garcia, and Xavier Contreras.
Elpidia will be remembered for her bright spirit, her love of music, and the joy she brought into every room. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
