CHARLOTTE – Abigail "Abby" Rose Fleming passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. She was born on November 26, 2007, the beloved daughter of Brad and Lara Fleming and sister of Noah Fleming.
Abby was a bright light. Her warm-hearted spirit positively shifted the energy in any room she entered. From the moment she was born, she served as an example of what it means to be full of love, acceptance, and grace. Abby possessed a timeless wisdom and generous spirit, always eager to see the good in humanity. She deeply bonded with all animals and held an immense affection for her beloved dog, Olive, as evident by the thousands of pictures on her phone. Abby possessed a vibrant creative essence and was exceptionally talented when it came to arts and crafts projects. She crocheted beautifully and loved to give her finished products to her friends and family. She loved Camp Seafarer- her "happy place" for eight summers. Abby's camp friendships were some of the most important relationships in her life and she treasured her summers. Abby felt most comfortable surrounded by nature and loved spending time at Lake James with her family. She became a skilled angler and knew exactly how to bait the hook, snag the fish, and release the catch without hesitation. However, nothing provided her with as much joy as listening to Taylor Swift's music and seeing her in concert. Abby took time to know and truly understand the lyrics to each song and waited in giddy anticipation prior to each record drop. On any given day, you could also find Abby shopping – she especially loved finding new hair and make-up products at Sephora and she became an expert at styling her signature blonde curls.
Abby was a sophomore at Myers Park High School. She is remembered by her friends for her infectious laugh, empathetic nature, and sage advice. Abby's innate ability to truly see and hear other people's challenges was a gift treasured by her friends and she will be sorely missed.
Abby is survived by her loving and dedicated family; her parents, Lara and Brad; brother, Noah; her uncles and aunts, Jeff and Kim Fleming of Henderson, NC, Elena of Raleigh, NC, Treve and Faran Henwood of Denver, CO and cousins, Lauren (Pat), Peyton (Newton), Harrison, Lanyon and Teagan.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2929 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte, NC. An outdoor gathering and reception on the lawn of the church will be held on Sunday from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This candlelight vigil will be a time for Abby's friends and classmates to remember her and support one another. Attendees to both events are invited to wear happy, bright, floral colors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Abby to HopeWay, 1717 Sharon Road West, Charlotte, NC 28210 (https://hopeway.org/donate). Donations will help support their expansion, HopeWay at Oakhurst Commons, which will provide mental health treatment to adolescents. Memorials may also be made to Humane Society of Charlotte, 1348 Parker Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208. (https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/WebLink.aspx?name=hsc&id=821)
