Edwin Bost Dorton

CHARLOTTE – A gentle man and a great father passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, February 11, 2026, at his home at Givens Aldersgate. He lived more than 96 years, sharing almost 73 devoted to his loving wife Elaine, and setting a shining example of love, humility, and inner strength to his two sons, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Ed grew up in Concord, where he was active in Boy Scouts achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in 1945. He was even appointed Scout Mayor of Concord briefly in 1946. He completed two years in Accounting at Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory before being drafted into the Army, serving at Fort Benning, Georgia in the Finance Corp with responsibility for paying the troops.

While still in the Army, he married the love of his life that he had known since elementary school. After his discharge, the couple moved to Charlotte so he could begin working at Radiator Specialties with a relatively-new invention - the computer - which was becoming an important tool in finance and accounting. After starting a family, he accepted a position in finance and accounting at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, remaining there for 29 years, rising through the ranks to Assistant Vice President of Cash Management before retiring.

He especially enjoyed family trips along the east coast, from as far north as Vermont to as far south as Florida. Closer to home, he enjoyed cookouts with the family and outings to his favorite restaurants.

He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in the chapel of Aldersgate Retirement Community, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service in the Wintergarden Club Room.
