Abraham C. Allen, was a retired Episcopal Priest who passed away on February 14, 2026 at his home in
Marlborough, MA. He was 77 years of age.
He was born and spent the formative years in McRae, Georgia. His family migrated to Newark, New Jersey and he later graduated from West Side High School. Early in life he developed a love for music taking piano, voice lessons, singing in groups and solo. His high school music teacher encouraged college attendance. Being an only child and due to the escalating Vietnam war, his mother packed a suitcase and sent him to Shaw University where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in music.
After graduation, he returned to Newark and was hired as a Recreational Leader. Because of His work with adolescents, he was offered an opportunity with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark Campus, in their Child and Adolescent unit. The experience there along with his faith taught him many lessons of active listening, the value of education, being firm but caring and showing unconditional love toward the vulnerable. He served as Elder and Head Deacon respectively within the Seventh-day Adventist Church. His "call" to the ministry occurred in 1984. He entered Princeton and graduated in May of 1989 with a Master of Divinity. Afterwards he moved to
Cambridge, MA where he graduated from the Episcopal Divinity School with the second Masters of Divinity.
Following graduation he served at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in
Cambridge, MA in the office of the priesthood. Later he was hired as an associate rector at Trinity Church in
Concord, MA there his ministry as a priest came full circle. He retired with his wife to
Marlborough, MA where he continued his lay ministry as a servant and good neighbor. Continuing his spiritual and ancestral research he embraced the fact that he was a Hebrew.
Abraham Allen leaves his loving wife of 44 years, F. Maureen (Zimmerman) Allen; his supportive sister-in-law, Cloretha (Zimmerman) Cumberbatch, extended family and many associates. We will miss his calming presence, the beautiful smile, that loving heart and his ability to make others feel at peace with the world.
Services and burial are private. Abraham will be laid to rest in McRae, Georgia.
