Obituary published on Legacy.com by Farone & Son Inc. Funeral Home - Syracuse on Feb. 2, 2026.
With hearts anchored in faith, we celebrate the life legacy of Abraham Odom, Jr. (Bubba), affectionately known by his nieces and nephews as "Bubble" and his grandchildren as "Papa", who faithfully answered God's call from labor to reward on January 24,2026. He peacefully transitioned to glory at his home in Syracuse, New York.

Abraham was born Aiken, South Carolina to the late Jestine Odom and Abraham Odom, Sr. He later attended Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia, where he completed his secondary education.

Upon, graduating from high school, Abraham honorably served multiple terms in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on January 29, 1964, having attained the rank of Lieutenant, Weapons Infantryman. During his distinguished military career, he received multiple decorations, badges, campaign ribbons and medals, reflecting his dedication, bravery and exemplary service to his country.

After his military service, Abraham pursued further education and earned a degree in HVAC, along with multiple professional certifications in the field. With this training, he was gainfully employed at Carrier, where he worked for over 35 years, earning respect for his skills, dedication and professionalism.

A lifelong member of Bethany Baptist Church, Abraham served faithfully as president of the Adult Choir, sharing his musical talents and leadership with his faith community.

Abraham was the patriarch of his family, known for his deep passion for family history. He lovingly shared stories of the family's ancestors. Referencing anyone younger than him as "old man" or "old lady". Although he was a very private man, he could speak for hours about the history and legacy of his family. The family would jokingly say, "When you call Bubba, take at least two hours out of your day." His dedication to preserve family history ensured that the stories, lessons, and legacy of generations would continue for years to come.

A trailblazer in his community, Abraham was one of the first Black men to purchase a home in the Mountainview area of Syracuse, leaving a lasting mark on his neighborhood.

Abraham leaves to cherish his memory his three children, Timothy Odom, Sr. (Kamala), Patricia Freeman, and Jestina Jones (Joseph); his two sisters, Theresa Jackson (William "Bill") and Bernice Broome (Joseph); and his brother, Ike Odom.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Timothy Odom, Jr., Aisha Williams, Demetrius Odom, Marcus Odom, Lawton James Williams III, Abraham Odom III, Khalid Williams, Joseph Odom, and Omari Odom; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jestine and Abraham Odom, Sr., and his sisters, Bertha Harvey, Hattie Owens, and Josephine Odom.

A man of faith, Abraham lived with purpose, humility and compassion. He was known for his quiet strength, wisdom, and unwaverly love for his family. His life was marked by service-both in uniform, at work, in his church and through the care and guidance and support he extended to all who knew him.

We find comfort int the words of 2 Timothy 4:7. "I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race I have kept the faith." Though we mourn his earthly absence, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and take solace in knowing he now rest in the presence of the Lord. His legacy of faith, honor, leadership, love, and devotion to the family will forever remain in our hearts.
